Would this work as an opening for an essay on technological advancements?

I'm about to write an essay on what i consider to be the greatest technological innovation in the past decade and how it has both benefited and challenged humanity. Would "With the explosion of technological innovations in the past decade, new forms of technology have acted as a catalyst for improvements to humanity. " work as a good opening statement? How could i improve upon that?
