Is it safe to drive from upstate New York to Michigan around Thanksgiving?

I want to drive to Michigan from upstate New York this Thanksgiving to visit my boyfriend. Based on Google Maps it's only 7 hours away if you go through Canada. But I am worried that there might be snow/ice on the roads by that time. My car is a simple 4-door sedan that is not equipped with any special tires or anything for winter weather. Would it be safe to try and make the drive through Canada at this time?
